Spotting the Signs of Spring in Reception! Our Reception children have been busy exploring the great outdoors and spotting the first signs of spring around our school grounds – from tiny buds on the trees and bright daffodils, to birdsong and (slightly!) warmer sunshine. These joyful moments aren't just fun – they are a key part of their Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) learning: Understanding the World – noticing changes in the seasons, talking about weather and how plants grow. Communication and Language – using rich vocabulary like blossom, bud, sprout and petal as they describe what they can see, hear and feel. grow. Personal, Social & Emotional Development – working together, taking turns to share discoveries. Physical Development - running, jumping, balancing and moving safely as they explore the outside. At Magdalen, we believe outdoor learning is a magical part of early education, building confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of nature. Our Reception team create warm, nurturing spaces where every child is encouraged to wonder, explore and ask questions. If you have a child due to start school and would like to see our Reception environment (indoors and out!), we'd love to welcome you for a visit. Year 4 Learn to Stay Safe on the Roads! Yesterday, our Year 4 pupils took part in a fantastic Pedestrian Walk with the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership, learning how spot safe places to cross, navigate junctions and cross using a zebra crossing. Samantha from the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership shared, 'I can honestly say, they were the best year 4 group that I have had this year. They were so polite, respectful and demonstrated some fantastic listening skills. It was also so refreshing to see them respecting each other and actively listening.' What incredible feedback! Well done Year Four! Experiences like this help build lifelong safety habits and support our whole-school commitment to keeping children safe beyond the classroom. Nurturing a Love of Reading in Year 2! At Magdalen, we continue to nurture a deep love of reading every single day, especially as we proudly support the Government's National Year of Reading. Following last year's abovenational results in the Phonics Screening Check, our Year 2 children are thriving as confident, enthusiastic readers who truly enjoy Reading for Pleasure. They are always eager to share books with one another, and lately they've enjoyed exploring non-fiction. Naturethemed books became a firm favourite alongside their anacondathemed English topic, sparking curiosity, discussion, and a wonderful appetite for learning. Our Year Five children LOVED Singsation!

  • 23 February 2026

Our Year 4 children have been diving into the world of politics to inspire them in their English learning this term. The children will be reading 'The Accidental Prime Minister' by @_tommclaughlin and exploring how local and national government works, before writing formal letters to share their views. To help bring their learning to life, we were delighted to welcome Councillor Wendy Bowkett into school. She spoke to the children about her role in the community, the responsibilities of a local councillor, and how young people can have their voices heard. The children shared fantastic ideas for how to improve Wainfleet, from environmental changes to community wellbeing. This term, they will be learning about the features of formal letters and crafting their own letters to Councillor Bowkett, formally presenting their suggestions. We can't wait to share our end result! An inspiring start to the term, well done Year 4! If you'd like to see more of the wonderful learning happening at Magdalen, why not book a tour? What a fantastic day out for our Year 3 class! We had an unforgettable visit to South Ormsby Farm School, kindly supported by The Country Trust. The children loved every minute – from making bird feeders and grinding wheat, to planting bean and pea seeds and exploring the farm. We walked through expansive fields, learned all about life on the farm, and even met the resident guinea pigs and rabbits (which were a huge hit!). We were treated to a bit of rain too – but best of all, every child was dressed perfectly for the weather and embraced the experience with smiles and enthusiasm. Just before jumping back on the bus we were treated to a visit from a kettle of red kites soaring above us watching us drink our hot chocolate with a yummy biscuit! A brilliant hands-on learning day, full of curiosity, teamwork and muddy boots. Today was truly one for the memory books! Want to see more of what makes the Wainfleet Magdalen special? Celebrating Excellence in Maths Learning In December, the official SATs results were published, and we're proud to share that our pupils achieved the highest average maths scores of all schools in the local area (within a five-mile radius)! This achievement reflects the strength of teaching, the consistency of our curriculum, and the joyful, purposeful learning that happens across our school every day. At our school, we believe that children learn maths best when they can see, touch, and explore it. Our classrooms are filled with hands-on learning, rich discussion, problemsolving challenges, and opportunities for pupils to think deeply and apply their understanding in meaningful ways. From early number fluency to advanced reasoning skills, we build confidence step by step. Great mathematicians start with great foundations and those foundations start here. Come and see why our school is the perfect place for your child to thrive! Don't miss out – book your visit today! Year 3 had a farm-tastic day exploring a 'Farm in a Bag'! We used all our senses to discover the smells, sights and sounds of the farm - from earthy aromas to animal noises and everything in between. This hands-on experience is helping us get ready and excited for next week's farm visit to South Ormsby. We can't wait to see it all for real! Thank you to Verity at The Country Trust for organising this for us! We cannot wait to see you, Lauren and Amy on the The Farm School next week! Sports Enrichment with Coastal Schools Sports Partnership Some of our Year Four children had an incredible table tennis enrichment session thanks to the Coastal Schools Sports Partnership! They learned a range of skills and techniques from Mr Green, who proudly represented England in table tennis at the Olympics when he was younger. The children were inspired as he demonstrated impressive trick shots before coaching them in key techniques to improve their game. To finish, the children took part in fast-paced games where the champion stayed on! A fantastic opportunity to learn from an elite athlete and develop both skill and confidence through sport Would you like your child to experience learning like this? STEM in Action! Our Year 5 class had an inspiring workshop with the Outer Dowsing Energise team this week, diving into the world of wind power. The children explored how renewable energy works, designed and built their own mini wind turbines, and carried out fair tests using different materials to investigate how these changes affected turbine speed. They also revisited their learning on levers and gears, applying their knowledge to improve their designs. It was a fantastic handson session that sparked curiosity, teamwork, and plenty of creative engineering!
