The Magdalen Primary School Pupil Premium Grant 2023 – 2024

As a school we believe that all pupils have an entitlement to achieve their potential whatever their circumstances. As a school we will provide opportunities to break through barriers, increase resilience and place inclusivity at the heart of all we do. We are determined that our children should achieve the highest possible standards of which they are capable and that we will continue to provide them with excellent teaching and guidance in order to help them succeed. The leadership of our school will always ensure that all resources are effectively deployed to ensure that every child has an equal opportunity to succeed.

Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools and academies to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. It was first introduced in April 2011. Since then the amount schools and academies receive has increased. Schools and academies will receive funding based on the number of pupils who have been eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years.

OUR SCHOOL FUNDING ALLOCATION FOR 2023-2024

  • £1,455 for each eligible primary aged pupil
  • £2,530 for each Looked After Child
  • £320 for each Service Child
  • During the year 2023 – 2024 we have 119 pupils that are eligible
  • Our Funding allocation for 2023 – 2024 is £189 000

 

The Magdalen Primary School, we aim to improve the academic outcomes of disadvantaged children of all abilities as well as ensuring that their attainment is in-line with that of their peers.

We invest a high proportion of our allocated Pupil Premium allowance on the quality of teaching – we believe as a school, that this matters most. The quality of education that we provide our children, is the biggest driver when we consider the impact of pupil attainment. While we firmly believe that targeted support undoubtedly has its place, we uphold a tiered approach to our spending, focusing first on high-quality teaching, followed by targeted support before moving to whole-school strategies. Using a tiered approach, according to the Education Endowment Foundation, this has shown the greatest amount of impact on children, and at The Magdalen Primary School we adopt this approach to our forward planning of our Pupil Premium spend, which has the potential to impact positively on all pupils.

All members of our school are committed to providing the very best education possible for our children. We work very closely with all of our stakeholders to ensure the children can be the best that they can be by setting high expectations and continually ensuring that children remain safe, secure and are happy. At The Magdalen Primary School, we support all our pupils. We do this by providing high quality teaching, supplemented by interventions for all children including specific targeted interventions for Pupil Premium, as well as targeting the more-abled disadvantaged children.

Key Principles for using Pupil Premium

  1. The Magdalen Primary School has an academy wide commitment to raise achievement for pupils who are eligible for Pupil Premium and knows these pupils must make faster progress than non-eligible pupils and is determined to achieve this.
  2. The Magdalen Primary School never confuses eligible pupils with low ability and strives to ‘bring out the best’ in this group of pupils and support them to achieve the highest levels.
  3. The Magdalen Primary School creates an overall package of support aimed to tackle the range of barriers including; attendance, behaviour, external factors, professional development focussing on improving outcomes for eligible pupils, improving the quality of teaching and learning, language acquisition, parental engagement, opportunities for first hand experiences and development of literacy and numeracy skills.
  4. The Magdalen Primary School uses assessment systems to track and enable thorough analysis of data (Reading, Writing and Maths) to identify pupils who are under achieving and why.
  5. The Magdalen Primary School directs resources and interventions to accelerate progress of eligible pupils and close the attainment gap compared to their peers.
  6. The Magdalen Primary School uses data to carefully track the impact of targeted spending (interventions, projects or pedagogy) on attainment and progress of eligible pupils.
  7. The Magdalen Primary School ensures class teachers, phase leaders and subject leaders know which pupils are eligible for Pupil Premium so they can take responsibility for accelerating progress and accountability is shared across the academy.
  8. The Local Governing Body is ambitious for pupils and closely monitors the academy’s effectiveness in closing the gap between different groups of pupils.
